Learn to control your anger before it controls you

Online Programmes

Not knowing how to stop your anger causes it to grow, intensify and spread to anyone or anything that gets in the way. Often it harms the ones we love – wife, husband, partner, children, friends or even people we work with, both colleagues and customers. It is important that we learn what triggers us in the first place. We react before we stop and think, then find ourselves having to deal with the consequences, which can be painful.

“Temper Your Anger” Online Programme

We recommend this intensive and in-depth anger management programme which is delivered online over a series of evenings. It is open to all adults who wish to explore, understand and identify the roots of their anger and express/get it under control safely through learning the necessary tools to manage and transform anger effectively.

You will learn how to evaluate your anger and stress levels, using cutting-edge techniques combined with an experiential approach, formulating strategies to successfully deal with them. Through identifying your anger triggers and developing an acute profile of your own anger and stress levels you will be enabled to transform them into a healthy part of your life.

Evidence shows that our anger is usually rooted in childhood and adolescence. Growing up in an invalidating environment where rejection, withdrawal of love, physical and emotional abuse, inappropriate punishments and humiliation are some of our experience, we cope by locking these traumatic memories in the unconscious part of our brain where they secretly fuel our angry reactions in the present.

Ranging from those who are violent in their expression of anger to those who inhibit and contain their rage, Temper your Anger helps you step through your inhibitions to start the process of effectively managing your anger and that of others.

Corporate Programmes

Managing Anger in the Workplace” is an intensive one-day programme delivered at one of our venues, or a venue that suits you.  The programme is very effective for people who come into contact with aggressive and hostile behaviour as part of their everyday or working lives. Very often what we see or do can escalate a difficult situation, so it is important to recognise what people need in that moment, and how it may be possible to give it to them without compromising our own integrity.

Using scenarios that reflect situations that might arise in the work place, we teach skills to help you handle and defuse conflict situations, protecting employers and their employees and creating a more harmonious, safe working environment. By examining and identifying reasons behind conflict it is therefore possible to improve work strategies

What you will learn:

  • How to deal with verbal aggression in a professional way that creates win/win situations
  • How to create strong personal boundaries in order not to take things personally
  • How to stay in control of a situation and to achieve a positive outcome with others
  • How to recognise when someone is being passive aggressive

Outdoor Programmes

Nature heals! It’s hard to be angry, anxious, stressed, spiteful and suffer low self-esteem when we are in the majesty of the outdoors.  In nature, we often find clarity and a new sense of ourselves.  Our wilderness programmes apply research-based practices and strength based interventions to support young people and adults to dealing with life issues and transitions in their lives.

We have adapted our programmes to enable us to deliver them in outdoor and wilderness settings. This means that our evidence based interventions are now more available to people wishing to embark on personal development in outdoor settings.

The location of our outdoor programmes vary from the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Our programmes are available in a variety of beautiful and majestic settings which are waiting to be explored.

Counselling & Psychotherapy

Therapy is time set aside by you and the therapist to look at what has brought you to therapy. This might include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Our therapist will do their best to help you to look at your issues, and to identify the right course of action for you, either to help you resolve your difficulties or help you find ways of coping. Talking about these things may take time, and will not necessarily all be included in one session.

Peter Devers M.Sc.

Peter Devers is a director of IaAM, an IACP and BACP Senior Accredited Psychotherapist, Trainer and Supervisor. He has 24 years post-graduation experience working with NHS Scotland and community based counselling services in Ireland. Peter’s vast experience as a Psychotherapist with adults and young people who have experienced childhood trauma gives him a leading edge in working in the field of difficult emotions.. He is committed to working to the highest professional standards and is passionate about supporting people to achieve a better sense of well-being through the development of emotional intelligence.

Bernard Henry

The founder and director of IaAM. He has eighteen years extensive experience working as a counsellor/psychotherapist in both the community and statutory sectors, giving him unique insight, experience and a wealth of knowledge that is invaluable when working with a wide range of emotional difficulties. Trained in psychotherapy and group facilitation, Bernard brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to the specialist field of anger management. His expertise and experience has been acknowledged by the two leading counseling/psychotherapy professional bodies in both Ireland and the UK. He is an accredited/registered therapist with both the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
